A Helpful Timeline As You Prepare To Move

It is no secret that moving can be a lot of work. If you are preparing for a move, you might feel overwhelmed about all of the work that you need to do. Luckily, there are some steps that you can take to simplify the process and keep you organized. Here are some tips about what you should do and when.

1-3 Months In Advance

At this point, you are probably feeling like you want to get some work done for the move, but don't know where to start. One of the most important things you can do at this stage is to get organized. Since you have plenty of time, you can go through each room slowly and get rid of things that you don't plan on moving. Most likely your house has accumulated junk over the years and there are things in your house that are not worth moving. Getting organized and getting rid of all of the junk will take a lot of time, which is why it is best to start early.

Another thing you should do months in advance is start looking at moving companies. You will probably want to interview a couple of different companies, and you need to book them early to get the best deals. For this reason, you should give yourself plenty of time to research companies and get your move on their schedule so that you aren't scrambling for a moving company right before the move. This is also a good time to track down packing and moving supplies so you have them when you need them.

1-4 Weeks In Advance

As you near the move, you can start to pack some things up. This is a good time to begin packing away those clothes that are out of season, books that you won't be reading before then, toys and electronics that won't be needed and so forth. You will not be able to pack up everyday items, but there are plenty of things that you don't use daily that can be packed.

This is also a good time to start cleaning. As you go through certain areas, do some deep cleaning. This will make the cleaning process easier right before you move.

Days Before The Move

This is the time when everything starts to get busy. You will be packing up everything you use daily, and your house will no longer look like a home. In addition, you will be cleaning in preparation to leave the house.

If you follow these steps, you will find that the day of the move will run smoother and be easier.
