Simple Solutions For Packing Up Your Home Office

Moving to a new home can be challenging, but moving your home and your home office together can be an overwhelming experience. If you are part of the 2.6 percent of American workers who telecommute, moving your home will include your personal and professional belongings. Moving your dishes, cookware, clothing, and toys is simple, but packing and moving furniture and supplies that you use in your home office can be a bit stressful. Using these tips, you can pack up your home office in a safe, efficient manner.

Furniture

Go through each drawer and cabinet in your home office and remove all clutter from your bookshelves, file cabinets, and desk. Sort through all of your papers and file them in labeled folders. Shred documents that may contain information related to your family and business. Place the shredded paper into a recycling bin.

Pack books neatly in a moving box, with the spine facing up. This will allow you to read titles before unpacking them in your new home office.

If you have adjustable bookshelves on your desk or other furniture pieces, remove them before the move. Wrap each shelf in bubble wrap or surround with newspaper before packing in a large moving box. Remove the pegs from the shelves, as well, and place in a plastic bag. Be sure to place the bag of pegs inside the moving box with the actual shelves.

If possible, remove the drawers from your desk and cabinets before moving. If you cannot remove the drawers, close them and secure them in place by wrapping bungee cords over the entire piece of furniture. You can also wrap the furniture piece tightly in plastic wrap.

Electronics

Use a set of small, colored stickers to mark the ports and cables of your electronics. Before disconnecting your computer, speakers, television, and phone, designate each electronic piece a color. Use the same color sticker on the port and cable that it represents. This will make the installation process in your new home office a lot easier.

Before packing, spray the electronics, cords, and cables with a can of electronics duster that will quickly remove dirt and dust.

Wrap each device or part in bubble wrap or newspaper before packing into a sturdy moving box. Surround the items with additional newspaper for extra protection.

Protect screens by wrapping blankets around computer monitors and televisions. It is best to move the computers and televisions without packing in a box, since the screens may get scratched and damaged by your other items.

Moving may be stressful, but it is necessary for many people. If you are moving and need to pack up your home office, use these tips and a bit of patience to make sure the job gets done correctly. For assistance, talk to a moving service.
